The Graduate School is pleased to announce Leah Townsend as Director of Graduate School Professional Programs. In her new role, Dr. Townsend is responsible for coordinating all administrative functions associated with professional programs within the purview of The Graduate School, including three Professional Science Master’s programs and the Graduate Certificate in Business Fundamentals.
Dr. Townsend holds a doctoral degree in neurobiology from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Business Essentials Certificate from Kenan-Flagler Business School. Prior to her new role within The Graduate School, she served as Associate Strategy Consultant with the Triangle Insights Group. Her key responsibilities included advising life science and biotech clients and leading Ph.D. recruiting efforts in North Carolina and nationally.
“Even as a graduate student, Leah recognized the need for master’s and doctoral students to gain non-academic skills and responded to the needs of her peers by designing and leading the Consulting 101 Seminar Series and later founding the Carolina Graduate Consulting Group,” said Jennifer Gerz-Escandón, associate dean for interdisciplinary education and fellowship programs.
Her industry experience, as well as her familiarity with graduate education from the perspective of both a student and a professional recruiter, will inform her efforts to grow and enhance The Graduate School’s professional programs, Dr. Gerz-Escandón added.
We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Townsend.
